Mission Statement


The Local 86 Sister’s Committee operates as a sub-committee of the International Association of Bridge, Structural, Ornamental and Reinforcing Iron Workers Local Union No. 86 (Seattle) General Executive Board. 

The objectives of the Sister's of 86 includes, but is not limited to: 

 

       Promoting by all proper means, the material and intellectual welfare of all local union members and their families.

       Promoting and maintaining professionalism and solidarity between women in the skilled trades while promoting solidarity between all members of Local Union 86.

      Proactive organizing and outreach with every opportunity within our membership and union as a whole.

       Network, fundraise and outreach within our communities and our membership to maximize and grow our resources while promoting leadership throughout our affairs and activities.

 

The Sisters of 86 sole purpose is to actively pursue a sense of comradery and belonging to the mere 0.02% of women members who make up the Seattle Ironworkers membership. We focus mainly on the Recruitment and Retention of Women, Team building with our Brothers and Sisters, and fundraising to help our members in need, the community, and any out-of-pocket travel expenses for the member who wishes to attend NABTU's Trades Women Build Nations Conference each year; the largest annual gathering of Building Trades members in the world. We have volunteered our time and worked with many organizations such as Make-A-Wish, Habitat for Humanity, local Shelters and Transitional Homes.; we are always looking for ways to get involved and be of service.
